Restoring a quarantined wiki

From MyWikis Help Center
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In rare instances, we may need to quarantine a wiki if it is being spammed, causing an undue burden to the rest of the MyWikis Cloud platform, or otherwise violating the MyWikis Terms of Service.

What is a quarantine?

A quarantine means we temporarily disable all access to your wiki, even for logged in users and wiki owners. You will be notified if this happens.

We recognize this is a very drastic action. We must quarantine a specific wiki when the experience of other MyWikis users is being affected significantly and the issue is directly attributable to that wiki.

Quarantines are allowed by Section 3 of our Terms of Service as a last resort in extreme cases.

Is my wiki quarantined or suspended?

More likely than not, it is suspended. If your wiki is quarantined, you will receive communication from our team regarding it. In rare cases, there may be a misconfiguration relating to custom domains.

Reasons for quarantining wikis

We only quarantine wikis as a last resort. Our first course of action is to mitigate the issue as best as possible and reach out to you. Our goal is to fix the problem before the issue becomes too unwieldy to handle without quarantining the wiki.

Quarantines occur in the following situations:

  • When your MyWikis Cloud wiki is a victim of a spam attack that is becoming uncontrolled
  • When your MyWikis Cloud wiki is using an unauthorized reverse proxy, such as Cloudflare
    • Unauthorized reverse proxies prevent MyWikis from properly blocking malicious bots
    • As of August 17, 2024, Cloudflare reverse proxies are prohibited for use on MyWikis Cloud
  • When any other violation of Section 3 of the MyWikis Terms of Service occurs
  • When any violation of the Acceptable Use Policy occurs

How to resolve a quarantine

Our staff will reach out to you, either via a support ticket or a direct email from our Legal and Compliance team (from @mywikis.com or @mywikis.eu) whenever a quarantine occurs.

If you don't receive an email and are unable to find any emails from @mywikis.com/@mywikis.eu in your spam folder, please open a support ticket with medium priority at https://www.mywikis.com/contact.

The good news is, wikis quarantined due to unintentional excess resource usage can always be restored as long as sufficient actions are taken to resolve the problem. MyWikis staff will be available to assist you with the entire process of rectifying the situation.

In extremely rare cases, if United States or Texas law requires us to close a wiki, those wikis may not be able to be restored. However, we will make a best effort to restore it within legal limits. If restoration is not legally permitted, we will provide a content dump of the wiki to the extent permissible by law.
